Robin Taylor is an avant garde guitar player based in Denmark. The music is anything but predictable. Robin is joined by his mate Karsten Vogel on Saxes from Burning Red Ivanhoe and Secret Oyster, Rasmus Grosell on drums and Louise Nipper on vocals. Robin does the synths, bass, guitars and percussion and surprisingly plays little guitar.

Robin Taylor has given us quite a cool album here. This disc encompasses some of the best of modern and retro prog rock and fusion.

When I received my review copy of Robin Taylor's recent album, Isle of Black, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I had heard Taylor's music described as jazz-rock (an only somewhat accurate description). I had heard it compared to Frank Zappa in his Hot Rats era (a slightly more accurate description, but still lacking). So much jazz-rock these days is bland and faceless, and this album, while clearly a fusion of jazz and rock, avoids that pitfall well. Regarding the Frank Zappa comparison, it doesn't sound like Zappa's music from that era, but it does share the same willfully eclectic attitude that makes Hot Rats so endearing.
