An interesting dose of filthy, dirty sludge that should appeal to fans of Eyehategod and Grief. Between the array of slow pounding drums and noisy riffs, Rwake implements experimental sounds that shows some echoes of early Neurosis. The onslaught of noisy sludge is from time to time balanced with calmer, acoustic sections, proving that Rwake is definitely not a one-dimensional outfit.

Not as sludgy as Weedeater, not as southern as Sofa King Killer, and not as mathy as Mastodon, Rwake bruise eardrums somewhere in between the three. Songs have an epic, almost prog-like feel to them. Yeah, it’s heavier than fuck, but heavy isn’t always distorted guitars. Amidst that there are quieter moments of technically savvy playing. Mixed together, amidst the movie sound clips that preface most tracks, it makes for an interesting listen.
